Journey Alerts - Getting started

Journey alerts is the new intelligent way to avoid congestion.

All journey alert functionality is accessible once you have created a personal travel profile and logged in. Once logged in, you can create & modify your journey and register to be notified of congestion & incidents on roads that make up your journey.

Creating a journey...

Create a new journey by entering a name for your journey into the 'Create Journey' text box above the map and clicking on the 'Create' button. This will then put the journey into the 'My Journeys' drop-down and make it available for editing.

Forming a journey...

Once a journey is selected from the 'My Journeys' drop-down, routes can then be added to the journey by clicking on the numbered route marker icons on the map. The journey can then be formed by clicking on the 'Add' & 'Remove' buttons that appear once a route marker has been clicked.

Routes added to a journey will then be highlighted in a light blue colour () and a directional arrow () will be added to the route marker indicating the direction of the route that has been added to your journey.

Registering for journey alerts...

Once a journey has been chosen from 'My Journeys', click the 'Alerts' button to set up a journey alert schedule for the selected journey.

An alert schedule is made up of the following:

  • 'Alert mode' - users can be alerted via email and/or SMS. The logged in user must first have registered their mobile number for SMS alerts to succeed. To do this, click on the 'Register for SMS' link at the top right of the 'Journey Alert Schedules' window and follow the instructions (to cancel an existing SMS registration, click the 'Cancel SMS Registration' link and follow it's instructions).
  • 'Day of week' - tick any combination of days of the week you wish to be alerted
  • 'Time of day' - select a start and end time for the schedule and alerts will only be sent between your selected times of the day
  • 'Journey time increased by' - this allows you to choose a value that ensures you are only alerted when the overall journey time of your journey goes the defined number of minutes above normal.
  • 'Events affecting journey' - allows you to be sent an additional alert when any kind of event, e.g. an accident, happens on any part of your journey.
Click the 'Add' button once you are happy with your choices and the schedule will be saved and appear in the list of schedules below.

Alert schedules can be updated by changing existing alert schedules in the bottom half of the 'Journey Alert Schedules' window. To delete an alert schedule, tick the 'Delete' tickbox and click the 'Update' button. You will no longer receive alerts for that particular schedule.
